Meet the Artist

Amanda Hanson

My artistic approach is a unique juxtaposition of whimsy and the macabre, often quirky and very detailed orientated. I am a maximalist! It shows in my pieces as levels of discovery, always telling a story which requires investigation on the part of the viewer.

Creativity and a vivid imagination led me to pursue art into a tertiary level. After receiving an Art and Literature scholarship in 1990, I attended CURTIN University in Perth, Western Australia, studying for a Visual Arts degree.

In recent years I have won an international crafting competition by constructing a feline voodoo doll, always entertaining the eerie and unusual in my interests.

Always excited to try new disciplines, I am a mixed media artist with a particular passion for papercraft. Collage is my latest obsession but I also enjoy quilling and Intuitive neurographic water colours.

Bold and colourful acrylic paintings and dimensional abstract canvases are another pursuit, incorporating resin, polymer clay and recycled objects.

Still life photography with a surreal and whimsical touch is also one of my experimental journeys.

Creating is my obsession and I hope to spread my eccentric joy into the world!
